FAQs

Does Dr. Holden accept medical insurance?

I do not accept any form of medical insurance or Medicare/Medicaid.  However, I will provide you with an itemized bill with traditional ICD-9 codes and CPT codes at the end of your consultation, which you may file with your insurance company.

You may also use pre-tax dollars from a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account to pay for your consultations and lab fees.

You may call the office prior to your appointment and request the billing code so that you may check with your insurance carrier to see if they will reimburse you for your visit.

Will my medical insurance reimburse me for my consultation with Dr. Holden?

The feedback that I have gotten from my clients is that their medical insurance does generally reimburse them for the their consultation/appointment with me at an "out of network" rate. This differs depending on your insurance company.  It is best to call your insurance company to find out about what your specific plan will cover.

Will my medical insurance pay for lab testing?

I offer two types of lab testing:

1. Regular labs are ordered through Quest Diagnostics, Lab Corp, and Consolidated Labs.  With these labs, I give you a lab order, and you take this to the lab of your choice.  The lab files this with your insurance company. The amount covered is dependent on your specific medical insurance plan and whether you have met your deductible.  Generally, these labs are covered 100% by your insurance if you have already met your insurance deductible. If you have a very high deductible and have not met it for the year, I have an agreement with a company called Doctor’s Choice to provide labs through Quest Diagnostics at a very discounted price. I will tell you the total cost of the discounted labs so you can decide which route to take.

2. Functional Medicine Labs are ordered through companies such as ALCAT, Metametrix, Genova Diagnostics, Diagnos-Techs Inc., and NeuroScience, Inc., which tests for things such as food sensitivities, nutritional status, detoxification status, GI microbial balance, digestion and absorption abilities, genetics and neurotransmitter/hormone metabolites.  These labs may not be covered by your insurance company.  However you can use funds from a Health Savings Account, if you have one, to cover the costs of these tests.

What is a Health Savings Account (HSA)?

A Health Saving Account (HSA) lets you pay for medical expenses on a tax-free or pre-taxed basis. For more information, and to see if you qualify, you will need to speak with your medical insurance provider.  It is also best to speak with your tax advisor to see if this option is beneficial for you.

What are Dr. Holden’s fees?

$375 for an initial consultation, which lasts 90 minutes to 2 hours.

$80 for a 30 minute follow-up visit

$175 for a 60 minute follow-up visit

I currently do not charge for email correspondences or short follow up phone calls. All clients are currently given my email address to correspond with me regarding their health issues.

Will Dr. Holden be my primary care physician?

I am no longer practicing as a primary care physician, and I require that you maintain a relationship with your primary care doctor and any specialists you may already have. This is because I provide medical services that complement the care you receive from traditional allopathic doctors.

What if I live out of town and want to become a patient?

By law, you will need to be seen in person by me for an initial consult in order to establish a doctor-patient relationship.

Will I have to buy nutritional supplements from Dr. Holden?

No. I may make suggestions for certain nutritional supplements to aid in improving your health, though you are free to decline that advice or buy the supplements at a retail store. I have carefully researched nutritional supplement companies for high quality products, and do make certain supplements available through my office.
